The RMT Facial: Muscles, Not Just Skin

While aestheticians are experts in skin health, RMTs are experts in the muscles. This treatment focuses entirely on the therapeutic and relaxing massage aspects of a facial, leaving extractions and chemical products to the aestheticians. We use 100% jojoba oil—a non-comedogenic oil perfectly suited for the face—and a sequence of techniques designed with careful consideration for delicate tissues.

The Experience :

Foundation

We begin with gentle myofascial work across the chest, neck, and shoulders, followed by the soothing warmth of hot towels and a relaxing arm massage.

Tension Release

As we move back to the neck and shoulders, hot stones melt away stubborn “knots” while maintaining a state of total calm.

The Facial Focus

The treatment then moves to the face, incorporating stimulatory fingertip kneading, rhythmic effleurage, and focused cooling tools (similar to Gua Sha.)

The Finish:

We conclude with targeted jaw release, a soothing scalp massage, and methodical Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). The RMT Facial helps the muscles of facial expression and the jaw to soften and replenish, offering a rare opportunity for your nervous system to deeply decompress.

Who will benefit from the RMT facial?

While anyone can benefit from the deep relaxation of this treatment, it is especially effective for those experiencing:

TMJ & Jaw Tension:

If you grind your teeth or hold stress in your jaw, this treatment targets the masseter and temporalis muscles to provide significant relief.

Chronic Tension Headaches:

By releasing the scalp, neck, and facial muscles, we can help reduce the frequency and intensity of tension-based headaches.

Sinus Congestion & Puffiness:

The inclusion of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and cooling tools(similar to Gua Sha) helps move stagnant fluid, reducing facial puffiness and soothing sinus pressure.

High Stress & Burnout:

This session is designed to down-regulate the nervous system. If you feel “stuck” in a fight-or-flight state, the rhythmic, gentle nature of this work helps you reset.

“Product-Sensitive” Individuals:

If you find traditional spa facials too heavy on chemicals or extractions, you’ll appreciate our minimalist approach using only 100% natural, hypoallergenic jojoba oil.

The “Tech Neck” Patient:

If you spend your day at a desk, the focused work on your chest, neck, and shoulders—combined with hot stones—targets the areas most affected by forward-head posture.

Why It Works:

Unlike a standard massage, The RMT Facial recognizes that the muscles of the face are thin and delicate, requiring a specialized touch. By focusing on the myofascial structures, we aren’t just rubbing the skin; we are changing the tension patterns of the face.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the RMT facial billable to my extended health?

Yes it is! The RMT facial is based on a massage therapy approach towards the natural care of facial muscles, soft tissues, joints + the lymphatic system.
Any techniques we use in the treatment are all within the scope of practice of an RMT, and have all been learned either in the RMT program, or through approved courses from the College of Massage Therapy.

How will an RMT facial differ from a facial provided by an aesthetician?

The difference between an aesthetician facial treatment as opposed to an RMT massage facial will be in that aestheticians are experts in providing skin analysis + assessment towards result driven care and treatment that’s focused on cosmetic results. With special training towards extractions, medical treatment, light therapy and techniques towards result driven skin care results. RMT facials are focused on the release of tension and increasing circulation to facial muscles and surrounding tissue utilizing massage therapy techniques + tools. Using stimulatory kneading techniques, instrument assisted release, warm + cool therapy and manual lymphatic drainage. All with an RMT point of view towards the massage treatment.

My skin is very sensitive, can i bring my own products?

Yes of course!

While use 100% pure Jojoba oil on the face, with no fragrance or added ingredients, we understand the sensitivity and complex nature of the skin on our face, and we encourage you to bring a face oil or lotion that you feel comfortable using.

At the beginning of the treatment you will be asked to remove any makeup and cleanse the skin, so if there is a cleansing wipe you prefer, please bring it along with you or cleanse your face prior to your treatment!

Are there any risks to the RMT facial ?

To ensure the best results and your safety, please note the following:
Injectables: If you have recently received Botox or fillers, please wait 3 weeks before booking a facial massage or manual lymphatic drainage for the head, neck, and face.
– Active Outbreaks: If you are currently experiencing an active cold sore or a severe acne flare-up, we advise waiting until the tissues have fully calmed before receiving treatment.
